Columbia Animal Shelter is hosting its 1st annual Chopped for Charity Event at John Wright’s restaurant on Saturday March 30th.
The Chopped for Charity event’s goal is to raise funds for the Columbia Animal Shelter, a non-profit animal shelter with a low cost spay/neuter clinic, low cost wellness clinic, and community outreach programs. The contest, like the long-running Food Network cooking show “Chopped”, challenges its contestants to prepare a meal featuring items contained within a mystery box. The contestants may use other food items and ingredients, stored in a common area, but the dishes must incorporate each mystery ingredient.
The combination of mystery ingredients poses the true challenge, as the items can often seem like off or difficult pairings to make a dish in 30 minutes.
The event will begin at 6PM with a buffet dinner, followed with some stories of Columbia animal shelter, followed by the work of CAS, a brief volunteer’s perspective, an honoree recognition, with the culinary competition to actually start around 7:30PM. There will be a total of 4 judges—three will be well known members of the community and we will auction off the 4th judge’s seat. This will be followed by a live auction featuring 6 food experiences ranging from farm experience to private dinners with local chef’s in your home. (Stay tuned for more details). There will be a fund a need paddle auction where during the bidding process I or the veterinarian will discuss just what their dollars will be able to do for the shelter. We will announce the winner from the competition and have closing remarks.
